Welcoming a New Church Planting Resident

Since last year, we have been developing a Church Planting Residency program that will allow seminary graduates to experience multiple facets of parish life while working with church leaders to sharpen their ministry skills with the aim of potentially planting a new church in the Mid-South. Our hope is to bring on a new resident every two years starting this June.
We have been actively looking for our first resident since last October, praying regularly that the Spirit would guide us to the right person. We are now excited to announce that we have hired Sidney Johnson for that position.
Some of you were able to meet him and his wife, Shelby, along with their little girl, Addie, during their visit to All Saints in April. The Johnson’s first Sunday with us will be June 14, and we will welcome them with love by hosting a good old-fashioned pounding party right after the morning service. He will be coming to us as a freshly ordained transitional deacon, which is scheduled to occur in Greenville, SC on June 6.
A Brief Bio of Sid Johnson
Sid is a native of Cataula, Georgia and recently completed his Master of Divinity and the Anglican Studies program at Asbury Theological Seminary in December. Before seminary, he earned his Business Administration degree and has been working in general contracting as an office manager for the last seven years. Sid loves being a husband to Shelby, being a Papa, writing, Georgia football, acquiring and sometimes even reading books, and watching NASCAR.
Shelby originally hails from Mobile, Alabama and has education degrees from Asbury University and Georgia Military College. She has most recently taught 6-8th grade reading and writing in Catholic schools in Kentucky. Shelby has a heart for hospitality and loves opening her home for dinners and game nights, spending time with family and friends, and nerding out about science, mythology, legends, and mysteries. They have a two-year-old daughter, Adaline, and are expecting another baby girl in November.
