Each year the entire church gathers for a parish meeting to discuss and vote on a small number of church issues. And yes, I know what you’re thinking: boring! And yes, I agree. Over the years, our format for the annual parish meeting has puttered to the level of uninspiring. But this year, we aim to change all that. There’s too much going on at All Saints to let this annual opportunity to rejoice go by with an “ahem.” So get ready, everybody! Welcome to the Parish Summit!

The Parish Summit is to a local church what a Synod is to a diocese, or what an Assembly is to a province: it’s a conference-like gathering where people celebrate the Spirit’s work among us and anticipates what’s around the corner. It’s an opportunity to give thanks and cast vision, to remind ourselves once more what matters most at this point in our church’s history.

Our theme for our first annual Parish Summit is “Transition,” as the next couple of years will entail lots and lots of transitions: new staff, new clergy, a new nave, a new church plant, a new diocese, a new bishop, and whatever else God has in store for us. Transitions bring both opportunities as well as potential turmoil. We want to be prepared to move through a season of transition well so as to come out stronger and healthier on the other side.
