Youth Ministry (Young Anglican Christian SocietyYACS)

The Youth Group at All Saints meets most Sunday evenings from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm for Bible Study and worship and most Sunday Mornings from 11:30 am – 12:15 pm for Christian Formation. These meetings provide an opportunity for students ages 12 - 18 to praise God together, grow in their relationship with Christ, and fellowship with one another as they learn about the Bible and its significance for everyday life. New folks are always welcome!

YACS Sunday Evening Bible Study 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The youth group gathers together over a meal to discuss the previous week and to prepare spiritually for the week ahead. Following the meal, the group engages in a team building activity, Amanda Larsen Wells leads the group in praise and worship, and Brian Larsen Wells conducts a Bible Study. Previous studies have examined the Book of James, the Book of Romans, and the Book of Judges.

Christian Formation Sundays from 11:30 am - 12:15 pm

Christian Formation is All Saints’ Discipleship/Sunday School Program.  Classes convene shortly after the close of the Sunday Eucharistic Service.  During this time, the youth group actively discusses the daily readings and/or a relevant subject decided upon by the Christian Formation Leader.  Malcolm Pearson, Chris Pope, and Brian Larsen Wells serve most often as the leaders of the Youth Christian Formation Classes.

YACS Monthly Activities

Once a month, the group engages in a fun activity or service project outside of their regular Bible Study.  These activities include such things as fasting together during the Annual 30 Hour Famine, throwing a Super Bowl Party, or going on a camping trip. To learn more about these special events, please see The Youth Calendar link above (for upcoming events this month) or the 2012 CYC schedule below (for events happening throughout the year).

Parents and Adult Volunteers

The Youth Ministry relies heavily on the dedication of its volunteers to ensure the success of its programs.  Our safe church policy requires that at least two adults be present at any event involving children under the age of 18.  However, for added supervision, we like to ensure that we have a ratio of at least 1 adult for every 5 students.  To meet this goal, we seek the aid of adult volunteers who are eager to connect with students and who would like to help them grow in the knowledge and love of Christ. Adult volunteers primarily serve as chaperones for youth group meetings and special events, but they also assist in behind-the-scenes roles like hospitality and administration.

If you are the parent of a young person or are an interested congregant 20 years-old or older, and you would like to know how you can be more involved in the Youth Ministry at All Saints, please contact Brian or Amanda Larsen Wells.

A Message from the CYC Ministers, February 2012

Amanda and I would like to thank all of our students, children, parents, and fellow congregants for making our first few weeks back at All Saints such a joy!  It is wonderful to be back in Tennessee working with such an exceptional group of young people!  As many of you know, our first major event, Feast of Lights, was held on January 6, 2012, and was a huge success; we appreciate the support of Dr. Bush, the choir, our students, and all of the parents for their important contributions to that event.  We also want to thank the Lairds, the Psungos, the Wagners, the Popes, and the Boxes for providing our Sunday evening meals this month.  Your generosity allows us to make YACS a true time of fellowship!

During the weeks leading up to Lent, our youth will be studying 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John and learning about the love of God which led Christ to the cross.  With the beginning of Lent, they will begin a study of the Passover—its basis in scripture, its relation to the Hebrew people (including Jesus Himself), and its importance to Anglican Christians.  This study will culminate in a Seder Meal which will be shared by the youth and their parents on April 1st, the Sunday before Easter.  Be sure to ask the youth about what they are learning over the coming months!

Sincerely,

Brian Larsen Wells.
